The Village Concept
The Village at Sunriver is a proposed mixed-use development designed to revitalize the heart of Sunriver, Oregon’s largest and most established destination resort. Based on a pedestrian village concept, The Village at Sunriver would introduce a variety of housing and retail options to enhance the long-term economic viability of the community by attracting more residents, visitors and commercial interests.

The Master Plan
SilverStar Destinations has assembled an experienced team of design and planning consultants to create a focal point for the Sunriver community. The Village at Sunriver will incorporate residential, commercial and community space in a flexible village plan based on a traditional Main Street concept. Main Street will link public pedestrian squares, ideal for gathering places, and be bordered by commercial opportunities at street level with housing above.

The current master plan allows for vehicular access on Main Street. However, the flexibility of the plan allows for closure of the street during events which may require larger gathering spaces. During periods of the year characterized by lower occupancy rates, allowing vehicular traffic can improve accessibility to retail spaces and help to drive sales for commercial partners in the community, fostering a healthy and sustainable community year-round.

The Village at Sunriver is poised to be the new economic and social hub of southern Deschutes County. At the same time, the community will be compatible with Oregon’s state-wide planning goals and will be sensitive to the surrounding environment. An investment totaling $250 million, the plans for The Village at Sunriver are a sustainable, long-term solution that will benefit current and future generations of Sunriver loyalists.

Key Village Features

Residential and Lodging Space.
A destination hotel will anchor the Village and expand the variety of housing options available at the resort. A blend of hotel suites, townhomes and mixed-use condominiums, averaging approximately 1,000 square feet per unit, will provide visitors with short to long-term stay options.

Commercial Space.
The proposed Village concept includes approximately 100,000 square feet of commercial space. Anticipated tenants include a new Country Store, retailers and restaurants.

Community Space.
The Village at Sunriver proposal includes a variety of new community spaces, including an ice skating rink, visitor center, and Village pool and fitness facilities. In addition, the plan incorporates upgraded bike paths and pedestrian areas and gathering spaces, such as greenways and plazas.

Keeping Ahead of Trends
Since the 1960s, central Oregon has been a regional vacation destination. Recreational opportunities abound on numerous lakes and rivers and atop rugged mountains. Drawing visitors from throughout the Pacific Northwest, northern California and beyond, the region has developed to accommodate its guests and their needs.

The development trend for destination resorts in central Oregon is toward high-value second homes that are not intended for overnight lodging use. A number of new resorts are in the development process, including Caldera Springs, Broken Top, Pronghorn, Tetherow, Brasada Ranch, Remington Ranch, Aspen Lakes and Hidden Canyon. As an established community, Sunriver maintains an advantage over these new resorts: its amenities are in place and it is home to a loyal population. However, its current mall has fallen into disrepair and tenants are facing difficulties remaining profitable year-round. Once the Village core concept comes to fruition, Sunriver will have the only significant retail village core among the new resort communities, providing market opportunity to attract more visitors and greater sustainability.
